Red-hot Agnieszka Radwanska said Wednesday her confidence is soaring after she halted the comeback of Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard 6-4, 6-2 to reach the Australian Open third round. But the American could not reach break point and Radwanska held on.
Radwanska, who struggled through the early part of 2015, has won four WTA titles since the US Open, including the WTA Tour Finals.
There was no time to bask in the satisfaction of getting through her first-round match at the Australian Open.
Pospisil used his powerful serve to win the first set in 45 minutes. She leaves the Grand Slam in Melbourne with wins in seven of her 10 matches so far this season after playing in China and Tasmania.
“It’s great to finish in three sets, especially against Philipp. He’s always tough to play”, Nishikori said.
The reports say the players – it doesn’t identify them or say whether they were involved in singles or doubles – were allowed to continue competing. In saying that, she had some early knock outs in the French Open and at Wimbledon previous year. She lost her serve only once against Krunic and won 13 of a possible 20 points (65%) on her second serve. I’m very, very happy I could play my best tennis today.
The Australian Open announced the fine Wednesday after a meeting by the committee of Grand Slam supervisors.
It forced her out of her fourth-round match with concussion and she remained troubled for the rest of the season. But none of that will have an effect on Bouchard’s match; Rod Laver Arena has a retractable roof.
While most eyes have been on No. 1-ranked Serena Williams since her stunning loss at the US Open, which ended her quest for a calendar-year Grand Slam, Radwanska has been carving out one of the best records in women’s tennis. Bouchard held nine of her 10 service games and faced just one break point in her opening round match and she’ll need to have that type of serving day if she’s going to pull the upset over Radwanska.
Sharapova, who won the title here in 2008 and has reached three other finals, completed the win in 71 minutes and will next play either Lauren Davis of the US or Magadalena Rybarikova of Slovakia.

Tournament officials said play would not start on those courts until at least 11:30 a.m. Ball boys and girls were sponging the courts off.
