Rahila Durrani becomes first female Speaker of Balochistan Assembly

Ms. Rahila Hameed Khan Durrani of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday took oath as Speaker Balochistan Assembly here on Thursday.

She was elected unopposed as new speaker Balochsitan assembly after vacating the seat by Mir Jan Muhammad Khan Jamali.


VDC member kills woman, child in Rajouri
Jammu: A village defence committee (VDC) member on Thursday allegedly killed a lady and her minor son in Rajouri district of Jammu area.

She is the first woman in the history of Balochistan who had been elected as Speaker Balochistan Assembly.

According to reports, no candidate submitted their nomination papers against Durrani in the registrar office during the stipulated time from 9am to 10am. “I will run the House in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Assembly”, she said. In the mean time, Qudoos Bizenjo, the deputy speaker performed the duties of Balochistan Assembly speaker.

She started her political career by becoming a provincial minister on reserved seat on the ticket of Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) in 2002. She has also previously served as the Minister for Prosecution.

In 2013, the coalition parties had signed an agreement under which the NP would have its nominee as the chief minister of Balochistan for half of the five-year term while in the remaining tenure the PML-N representative will replace him.
