Rahul Gandhi dares PM to bring back Lalit Modi

Several union ministers including Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh and Prakash Javadekar extended their wishes on Independence Day through tweets. The BJP will slam the Congress for stalling Parliament’s Monsoon session.

Prompted by Jaitley, Swaraj said her daughter had appeared with her seniors in the case.

On the opposition to the passage of Goods and Services Tax (GST), he said Congress had announced it in 2006 and introduced in 2011 but now it was opposing the bill despite all its proposals being accepted.

And then, Gandhi accused Swaraj of having financial ties with Lalit Modi.

The Congress leader also referred to the climbdown of the government on the Land Bill issue, saying the prime minister ran away when the Congress began its fight on this matter. “He (prime minister) only wants to speak on radio or television”.

External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj today made an impressive speech in the Lok Sabha, rebutting point by point all charges levelled against her in by the Congress members.

Mocking Rahul Gandhi, Jaitley called him “an expert without knowledge”. Gandhi also remarked, “Many people think Modi-ji has guts, some people say he doesn’t”. It is also not about corruption, though that may cause a ruckus. “He has failed in both”, he said, adding that Lalit Modi is the symbol of black money in this country.

The land law is one such subject, but the mother-and-son duo took the wrong turn when they insisted on demanding the resignations of the alleged wrongdoers first and holding discussions later. The Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge has alleged that BJP lawmakers attempted to “intimidate, assault and elbow” MPs from his party in the House, a reference to attempts by a few BJP lawmakers to prevent the protesting Congressmen from moving towards the government benches.

He told the channel that the controversy about him in India was “only a bigger circus around me now. But she looked away”, he said.

Chidambaram wrote personal letters to UK Chancellor of Exchequer and requested him to deport Lalit Modi but never moved an application for extradition, she said.

The minister, who spoke in the house earlier on allegations against her, said she had made no mistake.

Mr Kharge said that Congress had, from day one of the session, been calling for the issue to be taken up through an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, but the demand was being rejected daily by the Chair. The minister said the British government conveyed that Lalit Modi was given the travel documents according to appropriate rules. In his 25-minute speech, Modi reffirmed his government’s commitment to the welfare of the poor and deprived sections, and said Congress was “rattled” by rapid development taking place.
