The political slugfest over the JNU row spiked today with BJP chief Amit Shah accusing Rahul Gandhi of backing anti-nationals and the Congress leader hitting back, saying the saffron party was promoting a divide and hatred agenda.

Demanding an apology from Rahul, Shah said his support of divisive forces in the name of Left progressive ideology was not acceptable.
“It seems only the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh have the licence to say who is a traitor and who is a patriot”, he said while addressing a public rally at Titabor in Assam’s Jorhat district. “No citizen can accept that a terrorist is favoured and anti-India slogans raised at a prestigious university of the country”, Shah said in a blog.
“Rahul Gandhi stands with those wanting destruction and disintegration of the country”.
Separately, JNU teachers yesterday questioned the “scope” of a university probe panel investigating the alleged raising of anti-national slogans on campus.
Referring to Rahul Gandhi as “Rajkumar” Choudhary said that he had no right to be in India and support “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans and siding with the people calling Afzal Guru a “martyr”.
“The government wants to crush anyone who opposes this ideology”.
Referring to the assassinations of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, Chavan said while the BJP and the RSS have no history of taking part in the freedom struggle, the Congress leaders have shed their blood for the nation.
He said Congress was in despair and frustrated over the success of the Modi government and its leaders were unable to decide how they can play the role of a responsible opposition.
Amidst the JNU crackdown, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi met President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday. “We just want to tell them if they will listen to us, they will be convinced by us… they are simply crushing voices”, he said.

“CBFC, FTII, Hyderabad Central University, JNU & now even Patiala House Court Fascists will stop at nothing to try and subvert the idea of INDIA (sic)”, tweeted Congress leader Manish Tewari.
