The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Vice President of Congress Rahul Gandhi to either confront trial or apologize for his defamatory comments against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Without taking the name of RSS, the apex court also observed that Rahul should not have made a collective denunciation of an organisation.

“You must face trial, case must be decided on merits whether what you spoke was for public good or not”.
Mr Gandhi requested the court for postponement of hearing as his lawyer, and senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal will be unavailable for the coming two weeks. “In Modiji’s Gujarat, we are being beaten, terrorised and trampled every day”, he said after meeting the victims and their family members, who were given his personal number to contact in case of need. Freedom is not crippled or cut. The law is not against the right to freedom of speech. “What the writers, politicians, critics or antagonists say, you must have great magnitude to swallow”. Judgement is already there.
The apex court said, “If you won’t apologise, you will have to face trial”. The case was pending before a magisterial court in Bhiwandi in Thane district of Maharashtra.
The Bench subsequent to scrutinizing the judgment of Punjab and Haryana High Court, said it just says that Nathuram Godse was a RSS worker and included that Godse executed Gandhi and RSS murdered Mahatma Gandhi are two distinct things.
Declaring his party’s support to the agitating dalits, he said the Congress would defeat this idelogy throughout the country. Following the complaint, the magistrate’s court had initiated proceedings and issued notice to Gandhi directing him to appear before it.
Now, public figures like Rahul and Lalu will have to think twice before painting everyone with one brush and vitiating the political atmosphere.
Anandiben Patel government acted swiftly and arrested accused and provided treatment and compensation to the victims, he said, adding that nine persons have been arrested.

“We also sought financial help describing the poor conditions of our family for education of our children so that in future they can have a standing of their own”, he said. “It seems he does not have faith in India’s legal system and respect for it”, he told PTI.
