Raiders edge Chargers in possible Oakland farewell
Derek Carr led the Raiders on a game-winning drive in overtime.

The Raiders already left Oakland once, departing for Los Angeles following the 1981 season.
Making Thursday even more special was that it was the final home game for Raiders defensive back Charles Woodson, who is retiring after 18 seasons.
The Raiders took the opening kick in overtime and appeared ready to self-destruct, drawing three costly penalties.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Philip Rivers’ last pass fell incomplete near Charles Woodson’s feet and the celebration began.
On the next play, Michael Crabtree hauled in a touchdown pass from David Carr, who connected with Seth Roberts on a two-point conversion that gave Oakland a 20-17 lead.
Woodson got a loud ovation as he was introduced last with the defensive starters and was the only Oakland captain for the pregame coin toss. Injuries did the rest, taking out half of the offensive line and most of the starting secondary for the Chargers.
Referring to the possibility that Oakland can complete a plan that will convince the Raiders to stay in the city, Schaaf said, “I do believe it can be done”. The Chargers got one touchdown through the air in this game-early in the second quarter-but after that the Raiders defense shut them down in that department. “Unfortunately, we didn’t get it done”. Like Alice Cooper-concert weird, and that didn’t always sit well with us, but there’s no denying that when things were going well the atmosphere in that building was terrifying and it gave you an edge. A win by New England will lock up homefield, which is important because they have never reached the Super Bowl in a season when they have not had a bye week. Chargers kicker Josh Lambo made a 53-yard field goal before Raiders outside linebacker Khalil Mack was called for holding. “And some bitterly tough losses, too”, the 59-year-old owner of the Raiders said. “And it doesn’t make it any easier on us to lose another one like that”.
This game was about coming back, floundering around, surviving long tiresome periods and many mistakes… “We took a huge step in the right direction today”, Carr said.
The Chargers drove 67 yards and settled for a Lambo, seeking redemption, 48-yard field goal to the tie the game at 20.
It was Christmas Eve and the O, Co was festive and rocking with the division rival San Diego Chargers in the house. He and his teammates are playing for pride at this point in what could be their second to last game as a San Diego football game. Rivers only threw 11 passes that game as San Diego won 27-0. Ingram had a career-high 2 1/2 sacks the previous week in a victory against Miami.
Even with that, head coach Jack Del Rio knew it was important to win the game for his veteran.
He sent Woodson into the game as a receiver with the Raiders at the San Diego 10-yard line and ran a double-reverse to him.

The Chargers scored on their first and third possessions and led until just four minutes, 42 seconds remained.
