Raiders offense unable to overcome defensive woes

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles catches up with former teammate Sean Smith, now a cornerback for the Oakland Raiders, before the teams meet in Oakland on October 16, 2016. They struggled to do much of anything offensively, with only five first downs in the second half. His first carry he carried what seemed like the whole Raiders a couple of yards to set up a Spencer Ware touchdown. Smith proceeded to lateral the ball to Poe on a wide-receiver screen, which he ran in for a 1-yard touchdown.

The field is really bad so it’s hard to tell how well he can cut because nobody can cut.

After being stopped on the opening drive, the Chiefs (3-2) moved the ball easily against the Raiders (4-2), who once again struggled on defense, but didn’t get the offensive performance to overcome that this week. Sunday was a great win for the Chiefs, so lets take a look at the three things we learned from the action. He became a draft steal, albeit No. 22 overall in 2016, and intercepted eight passes as a rookie – one of those in Oakland in a 34-20 win over the Raiders. The club has now won seven straight games over AFC West opponents.

“We’re throwing a lot of different looks at you – run and pass. That’s what they were able to do today”.

Marcus Peters was unavailable to talk to the media this week because of a death in his family, but his Chiefs teammates spoke for the Oakland native’s excitement for Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

Afterward he touched on the Raiders stadium issue, saying he said he hopes they don’t leave for Las Vegas and stay in his hometown. “They better not go anywhere”. In reality poor conditions can favor a passing offense because receivers know where they are going and defenders have trouble changing direction.

Smith completed 19 of 22 passes for 224 yards, Jamaal Charles and big defensive lineman Dontari Poe each ran for scores and the Chiefs forced two turnovers by Derek Carr to dampen a fast start to the season by the Raiders (4-2), who are trying to end a 13-year playoff drought. “You have to get to the ball before he does”.

“The line did a great job helping us move the ball up the field”, Charles said.

“Kenny has the headset”, Del Rio said.

“It was probably a bad decision”, he said. The Chiefs vs Raiders game can be watched on TV on the CBS network or online through free live stream (details below). With Tamba Hali ageing and Justin Houston still on the shelf they have had a really tough time getting to opposing pass rushers and are just 31st in the National Football League in sacks. That’s the third longest active streak in the NFL.

“When you’re talking about Jamaal, you’re talking about a future Hall of Fame player”, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said.
