Raiders’ two-point conversion call made on ‘trust,’ not guts
Raiders 35, Saints 34 Michael Crabtree had 87 yards receiving and caught a game winning two-point conversion with 47 seconds left against the Saints.

According to ESPN’s win probability metrics, Del Rio made the wrong call, but he obviously didn’t see it that way.
Not only did the Saints give up three fourth-quarter touchdowns in a 35-34 loss to the Oakland Raiders, they found a new level of rock-bottom when the Raiders felt so confident against them that they made a decision to go for the game-winning two-point conversion while trailing by one point with 47 seconds remaining.
“I really thought he fought his butt off”, Del Rio said.
“We had preached all offseason – so many of these games come down to two-minute situations, and wanting to be in that situation defensively and practicing it so much”, Laurinaitis said. He orchestrated two long drives that resulted in rushing touchdowns – one by Murray and one by Olawale – and he also threw two ideal passes on the successful two-point conversions, otherwise Oakland would have lost the game without those conversions.
Last season, the Oakland Raiders were a young and talented team that shined at times, but ultimately failed to improve enough to end their postseason drought.
Raiders coach Jack Del Rio on going for two to beat the Saints: “I was thinking that we’re here to win; let’s win it right now”. “I said, “When we score here, we are going to go for two and win it right here'”.
The Oakland Raiders stunned the New Orleans Saints in a 35-34 victory in which David Carr threw a 10-yard touchdown to Seth Roberts and drilled in a rare 2-point conversion to Michael Crabtree on Sunday.
Brees’ touchdowns included a franchise-record 98-yarder to former Oregon State star Brandin Cooks. Even though they were down by 2 TD, they responded like big teams do and good teams should, never gave up, and they were rewarded for their efforts.
It was obvious that losing Breaux was a tough pill to swallow, especially after Payton reviewed the game tapes on Monday – specifically with regards to his three youngsters. The Raiders forced another fumble by Saints receiver Willie Snead, but weren’t able to pounce on it. It was later reported by the New Orleans Advocate that Breaux suffered a fractured fibula and would miss significant time.
Derek Carr, Raiders: Derek Carr didn’t accumulate 400-plus yards or four touchdowns like Brees, but he delivered down the stretch in the most critical moments.
INDIANAPOLIS – Matthew Stafford took advantage of one last chance Sunday and Matt Prater redeemed himself with a 43-yard field goal with 8 seconds to give the Lions a victory at Indianapolis.
The Saints could get some veteran secondary help from Sterling Moore, who was signed last week but did not play Sunday.
“After the game, I went up to Drew and told him, ‘I’m a huge fan, ‘ ” Carr said.
“He looked like Usain Bolt running down the sideline there”, Brees said. The second-year coach kept his offensive unit on the field with one goal in mind. He finished with six catches for 137 yards. “I’m happy about the way (Sunday) went”.
Armstead missed the first two weeks, the New England game and then sat out the week leading up to the preseason finale against Baltimore after a flare-up against Pittsburgh.

A couple of costly long misses won’t shake the Saints’ confidence in their undrafted rookie kicker after his National Football League debut.
