“Get well soon Mr President”.
In a 2002 vehicle accident, Kibaki suffered neck injuries and a fractured ankle during a campaign rally. “We ask Kenyans to pray for him, and to respect the privacy of the family at this hard time”, read the statement issued through the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit. “Our country still needs you”, Raila said in the heartening message by him and his wife Ida as reported by the Star.
Kibaki’s doctor Dan Gikonyo did not disclose the medical reasons for flying him to South Africa.
In a statement sent to media houses on Monday, Raila wished Kibaki a quick recovery while calling on his family to stay strong.
Soon after the family confirmed of his ailing in a statement but did not reveal what Kibaki, 85, was suffering from.
Raila was the Prime Minister.
According to a source close to the Kibakis, the former president had been rushed to Karen Hospital on Saturday night from his Muthaiga home in Nairobi after he reportedly developed complications arising from his 2002 accident. They also promised to keep the public updated.
