If you are traveling by train, get ready to pay more as Indian Railways has made a decision to introduce flexi fare system for Rajdhani, Duranto and Shatabdi trains from Friday. The base fare will keep going up and stop only after it is 1.5 times more.
The increase is on the base fare of the class and there is no change in other supplementary fees like reservation charges and superfast charge.
The ceiling limit will be 1.5X (where X=base fare) in the case of 2S, SL and 2A classes in Rajdhani and Durunto trains and 1.4X n the case of chair cars (CC) in Shatabdi trains.
There will be no Premium Tatkal Quota in these train services.
Following taxi-hailing applications, Ola and Uber, and airlines, now Indian Railways planning to bring in “surge-pricing” on key trains.
This is because Indian Railways has introduced surge pricing in all classes on these trains, on the lines of airlines, except first class AC and executive chair auto. This dramatic rise is because the railways has introduced surge pricing on these trains for all classes except first class AC and executive chair vehicle.
In the case of tickets already issued at pre-revised rates, the difference of fare shall not be collected from the passengers.
“The passenger revenue target for the current fiscal is Rs 51,000 crore as against Rs 45,000 crore in the last fiscal, an increase of Rs 6000 cr for 2016-17”, said the report. “All other charges will continue at the current rates”, the ministry of railways said in a press release. The new system means the Delhi – Amritsar Shatabdi fare which is Rs 749 can go upto Rs 1140, a Mumbai Rajdhani 2AC which is now sold at Rs 2870 will go upto Rs 4055.
The maximum price for each ticket of a particular train will also be printed in the reservation chart to make it easier for people to upgrade by pay the difference amount.
“In the case of Third AC berths in Rajdhani and Duranto trains, after the first 10 per cent of berths are sold, tickets for the next 10 per cent berths will be 10 per cent more than the basic fare”.
