Rain dampens birthday lunch, but not spirits for Queen’s 90th
Members of the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth, and Prince Philip stood on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony on Horseguards Parade in central London. The event is expected to draw throngs of Britons and visitors to Buckingham Palace for a possible balcony appearance by the senior royals.

Why does the queen have two birthdays?
Somerset’s celebration is the same day as London’s Trooping the Colour birthday parade, which will commemorate the Queen’s iconic birthday (April 21).
But with umbrellas banned on site, thousands of plastic macs are on standby alongside the pork pies and cake.
The special event is ticketed and those who have bought the £150 package will be provided with lunch, entertainment and rain ponchos.
If there is one thing a party fit for a queen must be, it is grand. Prince George also looked dapper in a blue-tipped cuff and collared shirt.
Harry was in mischievous mood and asked one party-goer their opinion of the “neon” green outfit his grandmother wore to yesterday’s Trooping the Colour ceremony. When he heard we were farmers he said ‘in or out?’ and I said I was going to ask him the same.
The streets of London were filled with more than 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and approximately 400 musicians.
The Queen will join 10,000 people for the Patron’s Lunch – recognising her patronage of more than 600 organisations in the United Kingdom and around the Commonwealth.
The Queen’s grandson is a director of Sports and Entertainment Ltd, a global events agency which came up with the idea for the not- for-profit event and will receive an undisclosed fee for staging it.
