“Unfortunately we had a lightning warning come in, and once the track had to evacuate the grandstands and we could get all the cars confiscated, we made the decision then to unplug it and announce that Chris had been declared the victor of the race”. – Buescher, while parked as the leader under Red Flag. “And I told him, ‘I can only imagine what’s going through your head right now.’ Just those kind of things”.

The weather was relentless at the Pennsylvania 400 and it finally prevailed around 4 p.m. Monday. Brothers Kyle and Kurt Busch rounded out the top ten.

“Bob made a good call to hold out on the weather and make sure that we could run as far out on fuel as we possibly could”, Buescher said. We can get into this Chase now.

He’s not there yet.

Buescher is the first defending Xfinity Series champion to win a Cup race since Brad Keselowski in 2011. But about 90 minutes later, it started pouring at the track, and the race was quickly called off. He was doused with beer and water in a makeshift victory lane celebration inside a garage stall. The win for Front Row Motorsports was the second in the team’s history. Once the cars were halted, Buescher and his crew rooted for the rain and fog to stick around.

Kevin Harvick had to settle in the fourth spot, even though he had one the fastest cars of the entire race.

“Trying to remember every rain dance I ever learned”. Chase Elliott, Austin Dillon, Ryan Newman, Jamie McMurray and Kyle Larson are the four winless drivers perilously holding on to the final five spots.

“This is going to change our whole year right here”, Buescher said. His win this season at Charlotte Motor Speedway might have been the most dominant performance by any Toyota driver in a race in years.

“We never lost the track”, said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR’s chief racing development officer.

Even more Monday races rain loom at a track without lights such as Pocono in 2017 and beyond. Three laps later, Dillon moved to the inside of Larson in Turn 3, and their Chevrolets collided side-to-side.

On Lap 92, the green flag waved and the race restarted with Logano in the lead, Kenseth second and Harvick third. Heavy rain could cause the grassy areas to turn muddy which will make it hard for vehicles to exit the track after the race is complete.

Martin Truex Jr.is on the pole with Carl Edwards starting No. 2.

Truex led the first 16 laps.

Perhaps one of the most famous races at Pocono took place June 19, 2000. It was reported a lug nut took the inner valve stem right off the wheel – the second time it’s occurred this season. Jeff Gordon, subbing again for Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Earnhardt missed his third straight race because of concussion-like symptoms and there is no timetable for his return.
