Rain delays start of third day’s play

With Pakistan earning a thrilling 2-2 draw with hosts England in the recently concluded four-match Test series, Misbah-ul-Haq’s side had jumped to 111 points, just 1 behind India who now sits at 112 points.

Darren Bravo (centre) had another failure in the Test series.

Repeated rain showers, unfortunately, threaten to mar the Fourth West Indies vs. India Test cricket match, after the weather in the Caribbean wiped out a day’s worth of play in the Third Test and almost four whole sessions of the Second. In his first four overs, he hit the outside edge of Brathwaite’s bat four times: twice the ball fell short, once it travelled in the gap in the slip cordon, and once Virat Kohli dropped it at second slip, seeming to suggest he expected third slip KL Rahul to go for it. Our goal is to play attacking cricket and dominate West Indies here. They had beaten hosts Sri Lanka to win their first T20 title in 2012. And Ajinkya Rahane, who has scored an impressive 243 runs in the first three Test matches, believes it is imperative to maintain momentum. Or will West Indies rally to claim a face-saving victory to close out their series against India? The Caribbean side has now failed to win any of its last 10 Test matches, losing eight.

“Ever since Australia we’ve really tightened up the screws and brought the team back to the top in Test cricket but (it could be) a pretty short-lived one”, Kohli said after opposite number, Jason Holder, won Thursday’s toss and opted to bat.

If Ashwin is a sureshot candidate for the Man of the Series award, one certainly needs to applaud Mohammed Shami for his lion-hearted performances in the three-Test matches after a hiatus of almost one and half years due to serious knee injury. “We always had the players”.

Joel Garner believes younger players are more drawn towards playing the shortest version of the game. “And we want to continue with the same”, Kohli said. The problem is they don’t work hard enough. “That is something I would like them to do, not only batting long but bat effectively”.

Since the first Test match was played at the venue in 1930, this is the first time that any global fixture is being played there after the month of June, which represents the official start of the rainy season in the Caribbean.
