There is also rain forecast for Bristol on Sunday. After just 38 laps, the race was halted as rain, somewhat heavy at times, hit the half-mile track. “So I think we’ve learned that and done a good job at really taking our notes and understanding what those items are and making sure we have them in our race vehicle”.

When the green flag finally flew, Kyle Busch surged to the lead ahead of rookies Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney only for another shower to bring out a caution flag and, ultimately, a red flag.

The signs were held up but with so much going on at the track, Stewart said that he didn’t really see the tribute. Pole-sitter Carl Edwards had fallen to seventh when the race was stopped.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. pays tribute to his friend, Sprint Car driver Bryan Clauson at Bristol by running the paint scheme that Clauson raced during the 2008 XFINITY Series season.

After another delay, NASCAR made the decision to postpone the race. The track’s timeline gave them 19 days to convert the infield to a football field and make things ready for what Bristol executive vice president and general manager Jerry Caldwell figured would be more than 155,000 fans coming out to watch the game.
