Rain mixed with snow on the way this week

Colder temperatures continue for Friday, with highs in the mid to upper 30s and the chance for snow flurries.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become hard to navigate due to accumulating snow and freezing rain.

A storm that’s making its way across the U.S.is expected to bring heavy rains and severe thunderstorms to the Deep South and East Coast, with the Rockies and Midwest experiencing some snow. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. The overnight low will be around 30-34.

Main streets in Brockville were bare and wet with some icy sections on Wednesday evening, and there was plenty of standing water in many locations.

Across the state, the agency forecasts highs today of 39 in Springfield, 37 in Worcester and 46 in Boston. “The storm has the capability of producing significant heavy rainfall amounts and high winds which may cause downed trees, power lines and also possible tornadoes”. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

Tuesday night: A 20 percent chance of snow after 7 p.m., low around 25. Cold air will cut in quickly this evening and scattered snow showers will take over. New snow accumulation of less than a half-inch possible.

The high temperature predicted for Thursday is 48 degrees and it’s expected to be sunny and as high as 38 degrees Saturday, the weather service says.

Meteorologist Lanie Pope said straight-line winds of 40-60 miles per hour are likely.

Wednesday Night: Rain, heavy at times, and wind.
