Jones flew to Kentucky after finishing seventh in the Camping World Truck Series race in the afternboon at New Hampshire worldwide Speedway and started the Xfinity race at the rear of the field as a penalty for missing qualifying. After a caution on lap 26, Wallace restarted in the second position on lap 32 and briefly led the race before cars with four fresh tires shuffled him back to the fifth position.
Veteran driver Eric McClure was transported to an area hospital for further evaluation after he was involved in a crash late in the race, according to NASCAR and track officials.
“I guess a little disappointed the way we ran in both races”, Jones said. In the owners standings, this week’s winning auto – Roger Penske’s #22 – has a 64 point lead over the Joe Gibbs-owned #54 which this week was in the hands of Erik Jones who finished the race in eighth place.
