Rain today, but sunny skies Thursday

Sunday marks the seventh day in a row that temperatures peaked above normal in the Upstate while mountain towns have reached highs above normal for eight straight days now. Skies will brighten up a little, as sunshine tries to poke through the clouds, which remain stubborn for most of the day. A few spotty rain showers will be possible across Northern Kentucky.

A chilly weekend forecast will include the risk for freezing temperatures, but Spring temperatures return next week.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy skies and chilly temperatures will be around for Friday night, with low temperatures around 34 degrees.

Frost will be very possible on Saturday night with temperatures dropping to the mid-30s for an overnight low under clear skies. Mostly cloudy skies and scattered rain showers will be around for Sunday afternoon, with a high temperature of 47 degrees.

High resolution NAM model shows line of showers, and maybe some thunder, zipping through the region around 5 p.m. Wednesday. When precipitation starts up again it should be in the form of rain showers but overnight it may be cold enough for some wet snow showers to mix in especially in the hilly areas south and east of Syracuse as well as up on the Tug Hill. The system pulls away early Monday, allowing for drier air to work in to break up the clouds.

A few showers will sweep through overnight into the morning drive time. We have experienced highs upwards of 10 to 15 degrees north of that!!

Rain chances will steadily increase this weekend as weak low pressure develops over the Gulf of Mexico and moves over the state. Cooler temperatures are expected early next week
