Team strategies revealed themselves when most drivers began pitting about halfway through the first half of the first segment.
Prior to the start of the final segment, a random draw decided the top 11 cars needed to pit a mandatory four-tyre pit stop. The cars that pit will line up behind the drivers who weren’t allowed to pit. But a caution prevented Kenseth from making his stop and he was penalized. As a result, he was penalized a lap.
