The second day’s play has been called off due to bad outfield without a ball being bowled. It soon started raining, furthering hampering chances of play.
The umpires made four inspections throughout the day but determined that the outfield remained too soft for play to resume.
Earlier, India removed two West Indies batsmen – Leon Johnson and Dareen Bravo – even as rain and wet outfield hampered proceedings on day one.
Simmons said once play was possible today, West Indies needed to stay focused on building a good total.
The sun shone bright in the morning but for lack of proper equipment, the ground could not be prepared for a timely start.
Unlike in the third Test at St Lucia, which India won by a huge 237-run margin on August 13, Windies skipper Jason Holder opted to bat first on winning the toss.
West Indies scored 62 for the loss of two wickets in their innings abd since then rain hit the match to disrupt the proceedings.
West Indies, who chose to bat after winning the toss, got to 62 for two batting first when play was called off at 2 pm.
Kraigg Brathwaite (32) and Marlon Samuels (4) are at the crease for the hosts.
In 1998, the first Test of the series against England at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica was abandoned after less than an hour s play when the umpires determined that the pitch conditions were too unsafe for batsmen against fast bowling.

Heavy rains and thunderstorms subsequently washed off rest of the game after an hour and 45 minutes of play when the hosts were 62/2 in 22 overs.
