The Central bureau of Investigation (CBI), which raided Rajendra Kumar’s office on December 15 previous year, on Monday announced his arrest along with four others in a corruption case. The evidence gathered by the CBI officials during their investigation so far are also being shown to the accused, explaining the details of alleged monetary benefits taken by them, they said.

Kumar was arrested yesterday by the CBI in connection with a case of showing undue favours to a private company in awarding government contracts worth over Rs 50 crore.

It had said that the documents seized from the office of Kumar “prima facie reflect criminal conspiracy and criminal misconduct and abuse of official position by the accused persons”.

Kumar is Kejriwal’s batchmate from IIT Kharagpur. That’s why they did it; otherwise, why would they arrest him?

The Centre was also accused of “political vendetta” and “paralysing” governance in Delhi. They want officers who scream “Modi, Modi”.

They had conspired to get the contract to Endeavour Systems Pvt Ltd. Observing that the money trail has to be ascertained, it said the agency had the audio tapes of conversations between Kumar and other accused persons.

“There are allegations that he (Kumar) favoured private companies to make their way for tendering process”.

In 2009, the sources claimed, bribes of Rs 1.7 crore was paid to Endeavour Systems by Seal Infotech in lieu of a government contract worth Rs 21 crore.

When the court sought to identify the presence of the accused before it started to hear CBI’s plea, Kumar was the first to raise his hands and come forward.

A scrutiny of his email account earlier had resulted in the discovery of five audio recordings pertaining to the period of 2011-13 which carry his purported instructions to the officers handling tenders and contracts to allegedly manipulate and favour Endeavour Systems Pvt. There is explicit requirement of section 102(3) CrPC that after seizure, CBI has to forthwith report the magistrate concerned regarding the seizure.
