Rajinikanth’s ‘Kabali’ smashes all box office records, collects over Rs 40 crore

Frenzy gripped southern India on Thursday, a day ahead of the release of Tamil cinema superstar Rajinikanth’s crime-drama film titled “Kabali”. Well celebrating the film and Rajinikant is Amul’s latest advertisement that pays tribute to both.

As known before the release, Rajinikanth emerges out of a Malaysian prison after spending 25 years in prison and the flashback reveals the backdrop of the film while in current context he wages a war against the nemesis and erstwhile enemies. An unprecedented marketing hype that included painting an Air Asia aircraft with Kabali posters heightened the expectations of the fans so much so that some of them shelled out Rs 2,000 to buy a ticket.

Rajinikanth merchandise was selling briskly outside theaters in Tamil Nadu.

“We are not against showing films of other languages in the state or in Bengaluru, the most cosmopolitan city in the country”.

“It is easily the best opening for an Indian film from premiere shows in North America”. There were all kinds of rumours but the film earned well. Rajinikanth himself attended a special screening in San Francisco on Wednesday. The next few days will be crucial for the film ” s success at the box office. “Kabali” has also done earth-shattering business in the USA and France.

Kabali doesn’t even serve the typical Rajini moments to Thalaivar’s innumerable fans.

“Kabali”, which was also released in Hindi, co-stars Radhika Apte, Kishore, Dinesh, Dhansikaa, Kalaiarasan and Winston Chao.

With all the stars shining, this is what Hindustan times has to say about “Kabali”: “Though Rajinikanth Shines, he has a long career in which Kabali doesn’t quite fit”.

Though the film, which has more than almost 100 shows playing across several theatres in a single day in Mumbai, has been getting mixed reactions, it could not dampen the enthusiasm of the fans. Many critics felt it is not a usual Rajinikanth formula film.
