He said he was aware that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had written letters to separatist leaders inviting them for talks with the delegation.
He said these measures were needed to follow up Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement of taking peace initiative on the basis of “Insaaniyat, Jamuriyat and Kashmiriyat”.
The all-party delegation arrived here on Sunday, almost two months after a bloody unrest erupted in the aftermath of the July 8 killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.
After his meeting with Mirwaiz, Yechury said, “We are urging both sides to first restore normalcy and ensure that sufferings of people during last two months ends”.
Singh said the delegation would like to visit Ladakh also in the near future as the region too is a part of Jammu and Kashmir state and it is important to listen to the voice of the people there. “India is scared of any meaningful dialogue with Hurriyat and Pakistan”, hardline Hurriyat said in a statement.
Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Shabir Ahmad Shah and Yasin Malik met the the opposition members of the delegation but conveyed their joint decision not to engage in any dialogue under the prevailing situation.
The Minister said to address concerns of Kashmiri youths living in different parts of the country the Ministry has appointed Dr Sanjay Rai as nodal officer who can be approached on phone number 011-23092923, 23092885. Why did they come here for?
“Some members of the delegation met Hurriyat leaders and that the government neither approved nor disapproved of the same. I do not want to get into this debate”, he said. In the morning she says one thing and does a complete about turn by evening.
Singh said they were ready for dialogue on Kashmir but made it clear that it will be only held within the ambit of the Constitution.
Talking about the motive behind the visit, the Home Minister said Parliament, which is the supreme “panchayat” of the country, is very serious about the situation in Kashmir and hence chose to send a delegation of its members for talks.
PDP General Secretary Sartaj Madni met the delegation with 10 PDP leaders. We understand the ground reality and realize that there is a need for state and central governments to take the political dialogue forward with all stakeholders, including separatists, for peace in Kashmir.
The Home Minister disagreed with the view that the mission was a failure and said the delegation had “very good interactions” with individuals and groups. Asked about killings in the protests, Madni did not give any direct reply and asked reporters to write only the truth.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh chairing the meeting of All Party delegation with the Jammu and Kashmir Government, in Srinagar on Sunday.
