Meanwhile, the State disaster management officials said the Ganga was flowing above the danger mark at six places in districts like Patna, Bhagalpur, Munger and Buxar. Nitish said the calamity-affected people holds the first right on state exchequers, hence the DMs should not hesitate in making proper arrangements of food and lodging at the camps. According to Centre Water Commission (CWC), the Ganga is flowing above danger mark at Fafamau (Allahabad), Mirzapur, Varanasi, Ghazipur and Ballia, while Yamuna is flowing above the red mark at Chillaghat (Banda) and Naini (Allahabad) and Mohna (Jalaun).

“This is the appropriate time to visit and gauge the problem but it should be impartial and not by someone who has already formed his own opinion”, the Chief Minister said at a press conference after reviewing the flood situation and an aerial survey of the affected areas.

“Current flood like situation in 12 districts including Patna has been caused by huge siltation in river Ganga”.

In Uttar Pradesh, the flood situation in the eastern parts is grim.

The army has been kept on standby to assist in the rescue and rehabilitation efforts in Allahabad.

While in Bihar, the state government has asked those living in low-lying areas to move to safer places as river Ganga is rising at a speed of 2 centimetres per hour. So far, about 10,000 people have taken shelter in relief camps. The Chief Minister told reporters that at the moment there is no possibility of floodwaters entering into town areas in Patna.

After the release of water from the dam, the Betwa River is also on spate in Hamirpur district. Several over bridges have been submerged in water, bringing road traffic on these routes to a grinding halt.

In Madhya Pradesh, torrential rains have lashed western parts even as relief works have gained momentum in Bundelkhand and Vindhya regions.

The districts of Chittorgarh, Baran, Dungarpur, Banswara and Jhalawar have also experienced good rainfall. They had gone for fishing in the river but suddenly the water level in the river rose.
