Raleigh march held to remember Martin Luther King Jr

“His work was left undone and the best way we can honor the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.is by not just reading his words and talking about what he did, but in finishing that in what he left undone”.

Youths led the MLK march down Jefferson, chanting, “Justice, not jail!” as they approached the county’s youth detention center.

They’re spreading Dr. King’s message that all men are created equal and deserve to be treated with respect.

“When black people are killed worshipping at mother Emanuel church with a gun bought through a legal loophole, this isn’t just a public safety issue, it’s a civil rights issue”, Clinton said. Gave his famous “I have a dream” speech.

Community members came together in Lewisburg for the annual Martin Luther King Jr.

“Painting things that are meant to inspire and meant to brighten up a student’s day and have them think about the future and what they can achieve”, said Senator Baldwin.

Tom Wine, who withdrew himself from the motorcade, was also in attendance.

“It’s so nice to be standing here and not looking at that flag”, said Ezell Pittman, who attended most of the King Day anti-flag rallies since they started in 2000.

And hopefully many more to come she tells me…

In South Carolina, the state NAACP said there is still more work to do to honor King.

Those who have been marching since the very beginning say it is incredible to see how the event has grown throughout the years.

“Because if you’re not careful, we’re about to allow a reality show host to bully himself into becoming president of the United States of America”, she said. They were in town from Chicago visiting the historic site for the first time.

“With the [slogan] “Keep Austin Weird” and everyone around here and the different cultures, everybody coming together at one time is priceless”, laughed Harper.

“Dr. King stood in the gap for so many of us”.

Mitchell says, “All of the Martin Luther King Boulevards are on inner city streets that aren’t kept up good”.

Fayetteville Mayor Edward Johnson addressed the joint congregation of about 150 people, stating that “Congregation B’nai Israel is blessed with Rabbi [Rick] Harkavy who embodies the spirit of Martin Luther King”.
