The Los Angeles Rams hosting the Dallas Cowboys stood out for two reasons among Saturday’s preseason games: The return to Los Angeles, and Jared Goff’s debut, which didn’t go so well. In his one half of action, Prescott completed 10 of 12 passes for 139 yards.
First, on his third snap, the Cowboys executed a delayed blitz.
The former Cal star didn’t start the game and was subbed in midway through the second quarter, with the Rams already down, 21-7.
Prescott was allowed more time to carve up the secondary due to the lack of pressure. Bryant only had two receptions but they were midseason form receptions that exuded pure dominance. The 24-year-old completed 18 of 25 passes for 147 yards and three scores.
The potential he showed in the first half of this exhibition has to make Dallas and its fans feel worlds better about the team’s backup quarterback situation, at least for the moment. Bell praised Dallas’ rookie quarterback, as well as the Cowboys strategy of fast-tracking his development.
On his next possession, Goff almost put the Rams in position to pick up points before halftime but rookie Pharoh Cooper dropped a pass in the red zone. “What he and Tyler (Higbee) did was a continuation of what we’ve been doing in camp”. Put simply, the early defensive line play was pretty good, but, like with the offensive line, got noticeably poorer as the game went on, although newcomer Shaneil Jenkins made a little bit of a flash with some nice penetration and a sack.
When backup quarterback Kellen Moore broke his ankle a few weeks ago, the Cowboys were looking for a veteran signal caller to play behind Romo; most notably, Nick Foles.
The quick score came in a preseason game at the Coliseum, where the Rams played through 1980.

Asked if a young player had impressed him, Johnson picked out Spruce, saying “he made some tremendous catches on third and fourth down”.

So far Kenny Britt is the only receiver on the roster who has shown the ability to do that for the Rams, even though he does not do it consistently. Second-year running back Todd Gurley is electric, but the NFL is about moving the football and finding the right leader is a must and through the first preseason contest, fans might have got a taste of what the future holds with the play of all three signal callers under center.
