Rams return home, edge Seahawks in historic moment for LA sports

The Rams wore their blue and yellow throwback uniforms, and the game itself was something of a throwback to smash-mouth football, one without a touchdown.

For the first time since December 24, 1994, the Rams played a home game in Los Angeles. I’m just surprised at that. “I’m going to write stuff down, because I want to remember that forever”.

On Sunday, the LA Rams claimed their first victory since 1994 in front of more than 91,000 fans at the LA Colisuem.

Still, it was the Rams’ defense that helped them survive, as it held the Seahawks down to only three points, as Russell Wilson, despite a decent 84.7 QB rating, was clearly bothered by both an ankle sprain and the L.A. defense.

“You’d have to carry me off in a body suit to get me off the field”, he said after the game.

Todd Gurley showed glimpses of the quality that made him last season’s offensive player of the year, but it was the defense that continued to dominate on both sides. “We were able to get the ball out and give our offence back the ball to get in victory formation”.

The tailgate parties began at dawn. “The preseason games were fun, but that was exhibition football, which is bad”.

The Rams hadn’t played a real game in the Coliseum since December 16, 1979, when they lost to New Orleans in their regular-season finale.

“I thought our defense held them down for the most part, but they did make some plays – field goals – and I’ve got to hand it to (the Rams)”, Carroll said.

Police Chief Charlie Beck says there are no known credible threats to security in Los Angeles after explosions rocked New York City and New Jersey, but residents should remain vigilant.

Officials at Zueitina said it was in good condition, though only about 130 out of 550 workers had returned to their posts. Dickerson, the Rams’ greatest star of their Anaheim era, was surrounded by a crowd of bubbling fans as he walked around the concourse before the game.

There was plenty of Hollywood pomp and circumstance before Sunday’s game with each of the team’s living Hall of Famers, including St. Louis Rams Marshall Faulk and Orlando Pace, present for a pregame ceremony.

The crowd included Magic Johnson, several current Los Angeles Lakers and several more Los Angeles Kings.

And on the sideline, LeBron James watched with approval – while fans chanted “Kobe!” LA led the Seahawks 9-3 at the two-minute warning but gave the ball back to Russell Wilson and the Seahawks one last time. Rams coach Jeff Fisher was back in the same stadium where he played for the Trojans in college.
