Trevor Siemian, the second-year quarterback who has been one of the biggest National Football League stories of the summer, on Saturday night appeared to solidify his victory in the race to be the Broncos’ next starting quarterback.

If it wasn’t apparent before the game that it would take a Siemian collapse for him to lose the job, it became so on the first two drives, when the Broncos opened with six straight runs. Fisher and Rams general manager Les Snead consistently have said they will play Goff only when he is ready.
Since April 28, when the Broncos traded up to nab Lynch in the first round of the draft, the 22-year-old has been the face of the franchise’s future.

Coach Gary Kubiak said Siemian did 80 percent of his usual workload and is still on track to be the starter against the Rams. This past week he said he hoped to take the competition “down to the wire”.
