Ramsey as important as Bale for Wales in Euros: Coach Coleman

Wales fans might have been alarmed when the name of their star player was missing from Chris Coleman’s 29-man squad, which will visit the Algarve from May 24-29.

His importance in the side is very much overlooked, with Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale taking the limelight.

“We’re trying to get a squad that’s going to be well balanced”.

“As a squad I think we’re too sensible and the management team is too switched on to just focus on England”.

Coleman believes Ramsey, 25, could benefit significantly from all the attention on his high-profile team-mate and stresses his importance to Wales’ hopes at the tournament in France.

Wales will face England, Slovakia and Russian Federation in Group B at the Euros and there were few surprises in a squad containing Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and skipper Ashley Williams.

If Wales are to thrive over the next month then Gareth Bale’s form could be key.

Bale, Wales’s top scorer in qualifying with seven goals, arrives fresh from scoring in the penalty shootout as Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid on Saturday to give him his second Champions League title.

“When the pressure is on, we have got to bring it. Everybody wants to talk about the (qualification) campaign, 1958 is a long time ago”.

Ramsey was on Tuesday included in Wales’ 23-man squad for Euro 2016.

“We can’t say he is going to be ready, we don’t know that”, he said. “Two Champions League winners’ medals in three years is incredible”, he added.

“It was good before, but from the meetings we have had there will be no excuses now”.

Emyr Huws and Wes Burns also failed to make the final 23, but the pair are set to travel to France as cover, with Joe Allen (knee) and Hal Robson-Kanu (Achilles) set to miss the Sweden game.

The conversation is, what stage of the group games will he be available for?
