Rand Paul raises $2.5M in 3rd quarter

During a debate with Democratic opponent Jack Conway this week on a popular sports talk radio show, Bevin said he would vote for Ben Carson for president. “I’ve talked about the hypocrisy of Jeb going to an elite Northeastern school and smoking pot, but then not really recognizing himself that the poor kid on the South Side of Chicago has a much higher chance of getting caught smoking pot”. It’s nearly certain that all of them will far outstrip Paul’s fundraising; they also outstrip his polling, and all of them will get to the main stage with no problem in the next debate. Bevin later clarified his statement on Twitter, saying he was not endorsing Carson or anyone for president. Now, Paul is bidding for ownership of a niche, and for a long primary where his libertarian base returns to grind out caucus wins.

Democrats pounced on Bevin’s pro-Carson remark in hopes of dividing Republican ranks ahead of the November 3 election in Kentucky.

Bush has more cash in the bank, too. Bevin is a businessman and Conway is the state’s attorney general.

Paul will need every penny.

“It’s really more about me supporting him (Bevin) than me asking him to support me”, Paul said. Paul’s campaign played down concerns that the slower fundraising pace was a sign his campaign was in trouble.

“I think it will be reported once or twice and probably forgotten”, he said.

Whether Paul’s campaign is bringing in enough money to stay the distance is an open question, but Gor is adamant that his candidate would not go the way of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who dropped out of the race last month. Comparatively, Sen. Rand Paul’s campaign has raised $2.5 million over the past three months for his Republican presidential bid.

Overall, Carson raised at least $20.2 million for the quarter that ended September 30, said campaign manager Barry Bennett, noting that receipts were still trickling in.

Gor said there’s been “an uptick across all fronts” recently.

On Friday, Paul toured a business in a mostly minority section of Louisville, Kentucky, to promote criminal-justice reforms and tax breaks to stimulate job growth in struggling neighborhoods.

That might have been the reaction of U.S. Sen. Although Paul did say publicly that he will not be going anywhere anytime soon. He said it’s not the fault of police, but a result of a focus on inner cities in combating illegal drug use.

“Donors who have given to us were generally pretty energized by the performance in last debate”, says the PAC’s senior adviser, Matt Kibbe, who noted that Trump has taken up a lot of the oxygen but that there is still time for Paul to turn things around.

But the Paul campaign insists its financials are healthy and on an upward trajectory and that the Kentucky senator is “in it for the long haul”.

Numerous voting blocs Paul is trying to appeal to aren’t a very big presence in Republican primaries, an electorate that skews older and whiter.
