Rand Paul: Ted Cruz ‘natural-born Canadian’

To an originalist, a “natural born Citizen” is a person who is a citizen of the United States under “natural” principles of law in 1788.

In the midst of the debate over whether Ted Cruz is a “natural-born citizen” of the USA and therefore eligible for the presidency, the Texas Sen. released a copy of his mother´s birth certificate. Coulter agreed: “I guess that’s right, but it never occurred to anyone to say, ‘Oh, no, sure, you can have only one American citizen parent and it can be your mother.’ Nobody, nobody, nobody contested whether Obama’s mother was an American citizen”. “I think the democrats will challenge it at the very least and i think it will have to be decided by the Supreme Court at the very least”.

Senator McCain and GOP presidential rivals Donald Trump and Senator Rand Paul (R-TX) opined last week that this is a legitimate issue. “It is not me, it’s whether or not Democrats pursue it – and I think they will”.

If Senator Cruz is chosen as the Republican nominee and is proven not to be a natural born citizen, Hunt’s attorney, Nick Carter says, “Not only will it throw the election into some sort of helter skelter but Wyoming voters would be disenfranchised to choose their president”. Jus sanguinis – the law of blood – held that a child’s citizenship flowed from the parents’ allegiance, regardless of place of birth. “So it appears to be a unique qualification and most people have interpreted they had to be born in the USA until recently”, Paul said. “I don’t think it’s illegitimate to look into it”.

Republicans have split on the Cruz controversy. I’m not a constitutional scholar on that, but I think it’s worth looking into.
