Five years after fleeing to Canada, actor Randy Quaid is back in the United States and in custody.

Randy Quaid and his wife are in a Vermont jail.

On Wednesday, Randy Quaid spoke with the Associated Press, saying he wanted to “move on” with his life and resolve all of his legal issues.

Evi Quaid is a dual U.S.-Canadian citizen, while Randy Quaid has been seeking Canadian citizenship as the couple has lived in Montreal for the past three years.

Burlington defense lawyer Lisa Shelkrot, arguing for $2,500 bail, said in court that Evi Quiad had ties to Vermont, including her father, George Motolanez, who had taught at Middlebury Union High School and Middlebury College. Randy Quaid won a Golden Globe award for his roles in both LBJ: The Early Years and Independence Day. After the May arrest, the actor apologized and met the requirement to check in with local officials every two weeks.

Back in April, Quaid was also arrested in Canada as the result of an investigation.

After leaving for Canada, the Quaids claimed they were being persecuted in the USA and were possible targets of so-called “Hollywood star-whackers” who may have killed actors.

The Quaids are set to be arraigned Monday in a Vermont courtroom, but the extradition process has began to return them to Santa Barbara to face charges of trespassing, felony vandalism and failure to appear in court, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. In 2010, they were arrested again for living in and damaging a guest house on the property of a home they once owned.

Reasons for arrest warrant were not immediately clear but Quaid had recently commented that they were related to a longstanding dispute over a property in Santa Barbara. Carter said Quaid and his wife also face felony charges for failing to appear at a November 2010 court hearing while out on bail.
