Rangers add power with Carlos Beltran, Jonathan Lucroy

“He’s got a big arm”. Only time will tell if the prospects they got in return will pan out and make Cashman look like a genius but as of right now the Yankees were a big victor on Monday they took an already rising farm system and turned it into one of the best in baseball adding guys like Frazier, Torres, Tate and others they can either keep these guys and develop them or they could be used as trade bait to possibly bring in an ace like Chris Sale Cashman now has a ton of options.

After the dust settled on an active last couple days, Texas had gone 3-for-3.

Jonathan Lucroy, Carlos Beltran and Jeremy Jeffress are headed to the Rangers, while six minor leaguers of varying pedigree are headed to the Yankees and Brewers in two trades that clearly shake the balance of power in the American League.

Shortly after the trade, NY acquired Tyler Clippard from the Diamondbacks to soften the blow (at least a little) of losing Miller. Daniels wouldn’t confirm the pre-deadline rumors, but it makes sense that the Rangers had coveted Archer and Sale. The Yankees would only listen to trades if the offer was intriguing and they got just that.

In the league, I believe there are two players in recent history that are always a scary at bat and those two are “Big Papi” David Ortiz, and lethal switch hitter Carlos Beltran. Robinson Chirinos has started 33 games. And adding Jeffress, who has 27 saves, should be a boon in terms of shortening games.

This was somewhat surprising as reports made it seem like management wasn’t keen on giving up on the season.

Cashman said that the Yankees are “in a position to do some transitioning” and have prospects other teams will covet. “A top pick like that so soon after you take him for a quote and quote rental player”, Daniels said. There were, however, plenty of ‘buyers’. “Obviously, I had good relationships with the players that we lost, and that’s tough, but i completely understand why they did it”.

Miller, New York’s other stupid-good lefty reliever, went to the Cleveland Indians. The Indians also acquired Brandon Guyer from the Rays to provide depth. Joining them as new arrivals in the team’s top 20 are pitchers Justus Sheffield (#7) and Dillon Tate (#11), and outfielder Billy McKinney (#16). But with NY hovering around.500 all year with no real reason to expect improvement, GM Brian Cashman finally chose to blow things up and look toward the future.

Even so, this is a major improvement. Maybe he doesn’t turn things around this year, or even next year, but he’s only 22 and the Yankees can afford to take a chance on him.

Sox manager John Farrell said “yes and no” when asked if he were surprised the Yankees were deadline sellers. Chicago now has one of baseball’s deepest bullpens and should be better able to cash in on its explosive offense. He came up with Houston and also pitched for Washington and Oakland. “Those are the moments we want to be in”, Moore said after the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants got the left-hander from last-place Tampa Bay.

Francisco Liriano and Joe Smith found new homes, too, as playoff contenders stocked up for the stretch.

When asked how the trades came about, Daniels says they knew they could make the deal with NY because Tate’s name hadn’t come up in any other discussions they were having with other clubs, notably Milwaukee.

Keep in mind that Tate hasn’t been a starting pitcher for very long. Though a blister condition has recently sidelined him, he is nearly ready to return and should shore up a rotation that’s been riddled by injuries.

Josh Reddick will play out most of his remaining contract at Dodger Stadium after being sent as part of the Hill deal.

The clear loser of this deal is Gallo. Some didn’t accomplish what they set out to do, about which there is far less to say.

Carlos Beltran was having his best season as a Yankee hitting.304 with 22 home runs and 64 RBIs
