On Saturday, Sindh government appointed senior advocate Nisar Ahmad Durrani as special prosecutor in former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain case.

The Rangers deputy superintendent Inayatullah Khan Durrani submitted in the petition that the provincial government, with ulterior motives, was trying to influence the investigation and the prosecution of the trial against Dr Hussain. He said that there was ample evidence about the involvement of Dr Asim’s in corrupt practices as well as treatment and harbouring of terrorists at his hospital’s branches in Clifton and North Nazimabad areas of Karachi.

An FIR was registered against Doctor on the request of Sindh Rangers under the charges of protecting the terrorists and receiving kickbacks for allocating contracts to his favourites while holding top government offices.

The Sindh government has now appointed Nisar Ahmed Durrani in the place of Mushtaq Jehangiri as the special public prosecutor in the case against the former petroleum minister.

Opposite to the police statement, the Rangers prosecutor argued that sufficient testimony found against Dr Asim to incriminate him.
