According to the sources, the federal interior ministry is expected to issue a notification in this regard today.

The federal government went on to say that Rangers should be given complete powers if it is deployed, the sources added. “The federal government does not have the authority to impose governor’s rule in Sindh or in any other province”, he maintained.

The summary also included several clauses related to special powers of Rangers as given in a resolution approved by Sindh Assembly.

However the paramilitary force will require a permission from Sindh Chief Secretary before raiding any public office or arresting any government official. The Opposition leader in NA lashed out at Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali for not making any contact with Qaim Ali Shah to inform him about the development, seek his opinion and hold discussion prior to announcing extension in Rangers’ power in the province led by him. “But it appears that while the head is still there, the cap has gone”. The Sindh government has repeatedly brought its concerns into the notice of federal government as well as the prime minister.

PPP leaders claimed that the federation has no right to reject the summary of Sindh government.

It had said that Rangers should take action only in cases of terrorism, targeted killings, extortion, kidnapping for ransom and sectarian killings.

In the contents of the letter, it has been stated that Pakistan Rangers is working under the Anti-Terrorism Act and that Rangers’ powers can not be limited without amending the Act.

“If the resolution is read carefully”, the CM clarified, “It would be evident that the Rangers powers are not curbed by any law”.
