Rangers send Etem to Canucks for Jensen, 6th round pick

Shortly after news broke that the New York Rangers would be announcing a move with Emerson Etem, Alain Vigneault confirmed that the 23-year-old would be on his way to Hartford. Virtanen has tallied four points (one goal, three assists) in 19 games with the Canucks this season. “Guys have really passed me in a sense and I need to get back on that level consistently”.

If the Rangers had been hesitant to get rid of Etem before, forward Jayson Megna’s goal and assist and hard work in Tuesday night’s 6-2 win over Dallas seemingly forced their hand – they hope – in a good way.

Emerson Etem has found a lot of reasons to explain his inconsistency and offensive struggles during four seasons in the National Hockey League, from a lack of ice time to not having the right sticks, but after being traded to the Vancouver Canucks on Friday he took a hard look at himself. In 131 career games with Anaheim and New York, Etem has 15 goals and 19 assists for just 34 points.

Jensen only 39 goals in 166 AHL games.

For the time being, Etem will be assigned to the AHL, which won’t prevent a trade if the Rangers eventually reach an agreement. “And, like I said earlier, I need to get better at it, or it’s consequences for me”. As well, he knows Ryan Miller from skating with him in the Los Angeles area in the summer.
