Rangers top Senators 4-1, tie series 2-2

Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry will look to close out the Edmonton Oilers, who will have to rebound after blowing a 3-0 lead in the final four minutes only to lose 4-3 in double overtime. Tom Pyatt, Mike Hoffman and Mark Stone were also able to beat Henrik Lundqvist. “Definitely somebody who came out with the max pushback and character we needed”. “We’ll take that any day”.

So did Sidney Crosby, who was back in the lineup after missing Game 4. Just him being out there is a big presence, a big impression on all of us. In Game 3, they scored the first two goals and outshot Ottawa 15-5.

As the extra attacker that jumped on the ice when Anderson rushed to the bench, former Ranger Derick Brassard sent the game into overtime with 1:26 left on the clock.

The second period started with NY on the power play for one minute.

Michael Grabner set up Lindberg’s first 2:01 into the second period. Evgeni Malkin continued to produce for the Penguins, picking up an assist to extend his point streak to four games.

Vesey pulled the Rangers in front 4-3 with his first career playoff goal when he pounced on a rebound of Brady Skjei’s shot. Lindberg joined NY last season after moving up from the AHL team, the Hartford Wolf Pack. Even-strength shot attempts, tellingly, were 31-30 through two periods – just favouring NY.

Jimmy Vesey, Ryan McDonagh, Nick Holden and Jesper Fast were able to beat Senators goaltender Craig Anderson, who made some huge stops in the third period as the Rangers pushed for the series lead.

It was comforting to see city paramedics in attendance at Game 5, because the first 20 minutes were not meant for people with weak constitutions. He outworked Senators defenseman Cody Ceci for the puck behind the Ottawa net and sent it to the boards.

Chris Kreider scored goal number four for NY on the power play. Derick Brassard tied it on a insane scramble in front of Lundqvist with under 1:30 left in regulation, setting up the stage for the Turris victor – a play that, of course, was reviewed for a potential offside. And that would be the final score of game 4. He finally found the back of the net, delivering the final blow for the Capitals in a 4-2 win over the Penguins.

Aiming to avoid falling into a 0-3 series hole and with the home crowd buzzing from the singing of the national anthems, the Rangers came out aggressive from the start. “The most important game we have right now is the one that’s in front of us tomorrow”.

The Rangers scored at least four goals in four or more consecutive playoff games for the first time since 1994, when they did it in six straight beginning with the first round against the Islanders. Defensively, the New York Rangers are allowing 2.6 goals per game and are killing 79.8 percent of their opponents power plays. On the forecheck, it usually manifests by pinching up to the point-in the best-case scenario, keeping the puck in the offensive zone for more chances, and at the very least cutting off rushes the other way. We played with speed, emotion and determination.

“We’ve got to have a better start”. Now they’re one game away from going home.

Near the end of two lopsided thrashings at Madison Square Garden, Kyle Turris was physically abused by the New York Rangers. We believe we can win the next game and force a Game 7.

The victor of this series will move on to the conference finals and play either the Washington Capitals or the Pittsburgh Penguins.
