epa05506004 Marin Cilic of Croatia celebrates with the Rookwood Cup after defeating Andy Murray of Great Britain in the final of the Western & Southern Open tennis championships at the Linder Family Tennis Center in Mason, near Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, 21 August 2016. “But I’ve still managed to win”, Murray said.
Murray said that his mentality is in a good place just now, and added:”So I’m looking forward to NY for sure”. “I didn’t feel too exhausted yesterday in the evening”. Perhaps the pressure got to her, although Pliskova did play a very good match.
Murray never lost serve and saved all three break point he faced.
Having pushed himself so hard, Murray was happy with his efforts. And after getting close at the Australian, and on the brink at Queen’s, Murray’s blown him out in two meetings this summer in the Wimbledon final and now today.
“I went to sleep around 4am and woke up a little bit before 11am”, he said.
“For me, I’m coming off the best few months of my career, so it’s slightly different circumstances”.
“There were certain moments and I thought I was really putting out all the intensity mentally”.
Raonic was starting to find the pace as his shots became more aggressive and that helped him to hold his serve despite the best efforts from the Brit to get another break. It worked and I was making nearly every return, but I still preferred the other racquet for serves and volleys.
“That is not a formula of success by any means”.
“Now I’m looking forward to a few days’ rest”.
The first set went with serve for seven games until Murray grabbed the crucial break to move 5-3 ahead before serving the set out.
Marin Cilic upset the odds to down top seed Andy Murray in Cincinnati, ending the Brit’s lengthy unbeaten run in the process.
Murray will bid for his 13th career Masters title and overall the 40th of his career, fifth of 2016.
