Raonic upset by Monfils in Rogers Cup quarter-final
“He’s a little bit different player right now”, Nishikori said of Monfils. So it’s very important to make the most of those (opportunities), try to learn, try to be better from those situations. “That’s my next objective”. Earlier, Djokovic staved off three set points in a first set tiebreak before improving his career record against Berdych to 25-2. It’s a point Wawrinka will likely want to forget, but it went a something like this.

The boisterous crowd helped Monfils as well, though. After the match, Monfils said the long season was catching up with him.
“He’s been playing great tennis these couple weeks”.

“I think I’m a guy [who’s] always pumped up”.
“I just tried to concentrate in the tiebreaker”, Nishikori added.
Djokovic is the only member of the so-called “big four” in the sport competing in Toronto this week, with last year’s tournament victor Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal all absent from the $4.7 million event. He double faulted himself on set point, wasting his second opportunity to close out the set. But Monfils won the next game and it seemed as though the two would trade games based on who had serve.
Eliminating Wawrinka doesn’t constitute a major upset for Nishikori, the third seed.
“I tried to be a little more aggressive”, Nishikori said of the turnaround in the second game of the third set.
The top-ranked Serb saw his opponent cracking and never really looked back after that, simply watching as his opponent flung yet another ball into the net to seal the match in two hours in front of a the standing-room only crowd at the Aviva Centre that might have been wondering if the quarterfinal could have possibly felt any stranger. Nishikori will pose more questions due to his court coverage, but I feel Wawrinka’s additional firepower will give him the final word in tomorrow’s first semi-final. He had many match points against me.
Monfils was particularly successful drawing Raonic to the net then using a slicing backhand to put the ball behind him. Wawrinka and Anderson’s upcoming Rogers Cup match will be the tenth singles match for both players.
“It s one of the best matches of the year I ve played”.
Djokovic survived Berdych in a very tough first set in the quarterfinals of the Toronto Masters the eventually winning it in the straight set with a score of 7-6 (6), 6-4 to advance to the next round of the tournament.
Berdych showed impressive grit against the world No. 1 in the first set, coming back from a 5-2 deficit to tie it 5-5.
Nishikori was guilty of regular forehand errors, but managed to force a breaker after saving two set points in game 12.

The 31-year-old from Lausanne, who hit 14 winners and lost only five of his first service points, will next face Japanese third seed Kei Nishikori, who battled past unseeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 6-3 3-6 6-2 in the last eight.
