Lawyers for rapper Troy Ave are holding a press conference tomorrow (August 8) in regards to a deadly shooting at a popular concert venue in Manhattan. “Troy did not bring the gun into the venue and if the security had done their job, none of the injuries, including Troy getting shot, would have occurred”. The complaint said that Troy and other artists were allowed int the venue through a VIP entrance where they were not checked for weapons by a pat-down, a wand, a metal detector, or anything.

The lawsuit will allege that Irving Plaza and the concert giant that operates the club, Live Nation, had poor security measures in place and allowed a gun to enter the venue – which ultimately led to the shooting, according to sources familiar with the suit. The lawsuit claims that the gun used to shoot Ave twice as well as kill McPhatter was able to slip into the venue thanks to lax security.

Reached by Pitchfork, a Live Nation rep declined to comment. The surveillance footage released by the NYPD of the shooting shows a man who appears to be Collins shooting McPhatter, and police found a gun that matched the one that shot McPhatter in the glove compartment of the auto that drove Collins to the hospital.

Troy Ave is now out on $500,000 bail and has pled not guilty to charges including attempted murder.
