Rare rainout hits Los Angeles

It’s going to be like that all night tonight. You can’t lose this game if you’re going to make up 6.5 games on a handful of teams in 73 games. Rain is expected to lighten then return at approximately 9:00 local time, which would hamper any play that does begin, if any.

Even though the rain had subsided by 7:30 p.m. local time, the field was too saturated for the crew to properly clean up. They swung the bats well.

Rain cancelled a pair of baseball games in California Sunday for the first time in years. They have had a poor season, and it does not look like it will improve. Trout lined out to third baseman Sandoval. His 2.33 ERA has him ranked fourth in the American League. The Red Sox were only able to get 5 hits altogether against Wilson in his 8 innings of work and unfortunately none of those hits would turn into runs. The teams waited for almost 2 hours before the game was postponed. “We’ve run into two good pitchers that have thrown the ball well”.

Angels: Matt Shoemaker (4-7, 4.85 ERA) opens a home series with Minnesota. Hanley Ramirez is at.268./313/.485, 19 HR, and 46 RBI. He’s now hitting. 306 on the season and it’s really remarkable how much of an improvement he has made since last season both at the plate and in the field. 233 average does not help. In short, he was delivering on his promise as the best Red Sox pitching prospect since Buchholz.

Miley has given up 13 runs over his past three appearances and won his only career start against the Angels with eight innings of one-run ball back on May 24 at Fenway Park. He is injured now but expected back at any time.

Los Angeles Angels’ Erick Aybar, left, talks with Boston Red Sox’s David Ortiz during battin … Kole Calhoun is 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs versus Wright, who permitted six runs over 6 1/3 innings in his last four relief appearances.Heaney has been outstanding since being recalled, posting four straight quality starts and allowing three runs in 21 1/3 innings to win his last three.

The team ultimately did find a remedy, and a pretty cool one, at that.

Angels reliever Joe Smith (4-2) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win.

Albert Pujols stole the show, hitting three home runs, one in the first game and two more in the second.
