“The two matches we were needing a winning goal against Leicester and tonight”.
It’s now three wins from three Premier League games for United as they maintained their 100% record.
Man United’s next game is the Manchester derby against Pep Guardiola’s Man City on September 10th – giving José Mourinho plenty of time to work out how to incorporate Mkhitaryan and Rashford into the starting lineup without dropping anyone else.
The 18-year-old burst onto the scene in the closing months of last season, becoming the club’s first-choice striker and earning his place in England’s Euro 2016 squad.
He has just given Mourinho some thinking to do.
Rashford and fellow substitute Henrikh Mkhitaryan gave United something different when they come on as substitutes, offering pace and direct running.
“I tell the boys every day we have to go into every match to win”.
“I know when you score in minute 90-something we always speak about a bit of luck but I think the reality is that we deserved it”.
“We were just going with wave of attack after wave of attack”.
Then, in the late game, United joined the Londoners on nine points when they sank Hull thanks to a stoppage-time effort by substitute Rashford.
Chelsea had it much easier against another promoted club.
Eden Hazard, Willian, and Victor Moses scored in a 3-0 win over Burnley at Stamford Bridge, with a ruthless performance reminiscent of those produced in the team’s title-winning campaign in 2014-15, when Mourinho was Chelsea coach.
Manchester City can match Chelsea and United’s flawless start by beating West Ham on Sunday, while West Bromwich Albion host Middlesbrough. City hosts West Ham on Sunday. We have a long way to go, we have a lot to improve.
Rashford, who has been made to wait for his opportunity by Mourinho, added zip and invention to United’s staid attack after being brought on and had already drawn a fine save from Jakupovic before he grabbed his late goal.
First-half goals by Santi Cazorla (penalty), Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil gave Arsenal a 3-1 win at Watford to ease the pressure on manager Arsene Wenger.
Manager Juergen Klopp was left frustrated at Tottenham as Liverpool failed to kill the game despite their early dominance.
Everton kept up its unbeaten start to the league under new coach Ronald Koeman by beating Stoke 1-0, courtesy of a penalty from Leighton Baines that struck the post, hit goalkeeper Shay Given on the head, and rebounded in.

There were also two 1-1 draws, between Southampton-Sunderland and Crystal Palace-Bournemouth.
