Rashford on target as United down City

The Derby of Manchester turns the city into a raging volcano (4:00 p.m UK Time).

Another blow to City’s aspirations, and thin hopes of catching Leicester City at the top of the Premier League, is another injury to captain Vincent Kompany.

With Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard in attack, United clearly fancied their chances against City’s back-up central defensive pairing and home fans’ fears were soon realised. Following Thursday’s Europa League elimination by arch foes Liverpool, Manchester United’s supporters find themselves in the grip of an unfolding nightmare going into today’s derby trip to Manchester City. “We will play against a strong team with all their history and they will do all they can to win that game so we must not be trusting in those kind of things”.

“I think so”, he said in his pre-match press conference, reports Sky Sports. “Both teams will try to arrive as near the top of the table as they can for the next season. We need video referees, I think”.

As for Nicolas Otámendi, Pellegrini confirmed that he had picked up a knock midweek against Dynamo Kyiv and will be available tomorrow subject to a last-minute fitness test. Samir Nasri meanwhile returned to full training this week but won’t be available for tomorrow’s showdown.

United’s goal came against the run of play, after Rashford finally got one-on-one with Demichelis.

Whether one of the teams in Manchester ends up in that fourth spot remains to be seen, but heading into the break, the city of Manchester is red.

In February, a friend of the former Inter Milan boss confirmed that he was destined to replace Van Gaal at the Premier League club. Hart was carried off on a stretcher and Demichelis was put out of his misery moments later when he was taken off for City’s third substitute, Wilfried Bony.

“I think he was nervous”, Pellegrini said of Demichelis.

“It is more than three points, the position we are in the league it was a must win for us”.

City, on the other hand, do have those players but at Old Trafford both David Silva and Sergio Aguero were missing through injury, Yaya Toure was in bad form and Kevin de Bruyne had his worst game since his summer transfer.
