Rashford Set To Make Debut For England

Manager Roy Hodgson was without most Manchester United and Liverpool players due to their involvement in the FA Cup and Europa League finals, but he will have been pleased to see fit-again Jack Wilshere last 65 minutes, before being replaced by another returning midfielder in Jordan Henderson.

And his form for United prompted England manager Hodgson to name the forward in his 26-man pre-tournament squad ahead of confirmation of his final 23 names for France. “I was told to make the normal runs that I would if I was down the middle, to help create space for Rosey (Danny Rose)”.

“I don’t really know what to expect because don’t forget Rashford was a bit unlucky that we selected him and the amount of time we’re going to have with him is very, very short”.

“But I am ruling nothing out”.

“He was very good with his invites, he invited everybody but of course we can’t go”, said the 68-year-old.

The Spurs star is also delighted to see so many of his team-mates alongside him in the England set-up after an impressive season at White Hart Lane.

Asked if Rashford could play, Hodgson said: “We’d hope so, yes”.

England boss Hodgson has been hugely impressed with the Liverpool star’s progression and form this season and seems nearly certain to start him in the finals in France next month.

“I got the wedding changed a year ago and then at the start of this again and then again – three times”.

Vardy made amends for his strike partner’s error by smashing home from close range after Turkey goalkeeper Volkan Babacan fumbled a Gary Cahill header and will now leave the squad to get married.

“It was good, wasn’t it (Rooney’s performance?) Hodgson said”.

“It’s been the hardest season of my career so far but you’ve got to go through that, before that I was quite lucky and didn’t really have any bad ones”.
