Ravens’ defense carries team in season opener

The Baltimore Ravens handled the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, earning a 13-7 victory at home.

The Bills have their quarterback in Tyrod Taylor now locked up moving forward.

Yanda, who turns 32 on September 15, knows the Bills defense will be aggressive under head coach Rex Ryan, the former defensive coordinator for the Ravens. “I’m probably one of the only coaches that’ll give credit to the opponent because they deserve it”. However, Ryan couldn’t fully work his magic on the defense and the team fell short of expectations. “We know they’re explosive when they’re making guys miss tackles, so that was important today, and I was able to get that done”.

Quarterback Joe Flacco (23-for-34, 258 yards, touchdown, four sacks, 99.9 rating) checked to a post route that ended up with Wallace gathering in a 66-yard touchdown – 32 yards longer than any of his catches with Minnesota a year ago – for the Ravens’ only six-point play.

The Ravens’ quarterback was hit plenty of times in his first regular season game after knee surgery, and he reacted just fine. A couple of short passes to Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods and another run from McCoy followed in the next series of downs. We still have areas we need to get better in, but when we needed to get a stop, we got it. The Bills had just 92 total net yards of offense at halftime managing just one scoring drive with LeSean McCoy scoring on a one-yard plunge on fourth and goal to make it a field goal game (10-7) en route to the locker room. Signed as a free agent to enhance an offense that past year lacked a deep threat, Wallace hadn’t been part of a play that long since 2012 with Pittsburgh.

“We have a lot of guys, our corps, our receiving corps, is deep”, Wallace said. That is it for wide receivers with catches.

It was just the second time in eight years under head coach John Harbaugh that Baltimore did not make the playoffs. Sabuda said of Taylor’s performance in which he completed 15 of his 22 passes for only 111 yards.

Tight end Dennis Pitta, playing in his first game in almost two years, caught three passes for 39 yards. Thanks to a litany of debilitating injuries, the Ravens struggled mightily in 2015 to have any success. In four of those games, Taylor and the offense were within seven points in the fourth quarter and failed to rise to the occasion. It appears as if the Bills made it a point to punt away from him throughout the game. The same issue that arose so often last season showed up again. Still, they gained only 92 yards in the first half – to 225 for the Ravens. McCoy also caught all four of his targets for 12 yards. The veteran, who finished Sunday’s game with a team-high 91 receiving yards on three catches, said the touchdown was “extremely big” for him. Timmy Jernigan and Terrell Suggs each finished with a sack.

Given one more chance to lead the Bills back, Taylor, the former Raven, had the ball in his hands with 5:35 to play, and Buffalo trailing by six.
