Ravens stun Steelers, 20-17, behind Ryan Mallett, solid defense
Pittsburgh’s defense got off to another slow start this week, allowing 13 points to the Ryan Mallett-lead Ravens offense in the first half. However, if there was an obscure tiebreaker that stated, “Any team that falls twice in the same year to another team with double-digit losses is automatically eliminated from the playoffs”, the Steelers would now officially be done thanks to their 20-17 loss to AFC North-rival and now 5-10 Baltimore Sunday afternoon at M&T Bank Stadium.

It was one of the few mistakes the Ravens made in a game they treated as their own playoff contest.
The loss dropped the Steelers’ record to 9-6 and, more importantly, coupled with the New York Jets’ upset of New England in overtime, left Pittsburgh outside of the playoff picture.
Putting 34 points over on the NFL’s best defense is no small accomplishment, and that should give the Steelers’ offense a massive confidence boost heading towards the regular season climax and possibly the Playoffs. The Steelers now must win next Sunday and hope that the Bills knock off the Jets or that the Broncos go 0-2 in Weeks 16 and 17. Pittsburgh, however, needs to win out to ensure they’ll secure one of the two AFC Wild Card spots.
Mallett completed 28 of 41 pass with a touchdown. Signed by the Ravens on December 15, he was the fourth quarterback to start for Baltimore in a span of six weeks. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw for 380 yards and three touchdowns in 40 of 55 passes.
Whenever something bad takes place with the Steelers, we can always count on Snoop Dogg to give us a little pick-me-up with his rants like this.
The Steelers got the ball on their own 20 with just over two minutes remaining.
“We were so tight to the end zone, I was just trying to make sure that my guy wasn’t the guy that caught a touchdown pass. That was a bad thing that once the play was over, Jimmy going to the house, and to see there was a flag and it was on me”.
Javorius Allen, a rookie fourth round running back, had a career-high 79 yards and a touchdown.
“I’m proud of our fans, because we know it has been tough”, head coach John Harbaugh said. Today’s game has an early start time and airs on a network TV channel in some markets as well as being available as a live stream online option.
And although he didn’t get any help from receivers Martavis Bryant and Markus Wheaton on the last two plays of the Steelers’ final drive, Roethlisberger threw back-to-back incomplete passes to essentially seal the team’s fate.
“It’s hard to get anything going if you don’t convert third downs, and that’s a credit to them”, Roethlisberger said. Well, the offense produced 17 points after the Steelers had scored at least 30 in their previous six games. Linebacker Daryl Smith came up with the Ravens first interception since Lardarius Webb picked off Blake Bortles in Week 10. The Ravens’ win came between practice and dinner for the Bengals, so a lot of them were at lunch.

“It makes this season because obviously we can’t go to the playoffs”, Smith said.
