Ravens WR Perriman to miss opener

When training camp began this summer, many expected either wide receiver Breshad Perriman or tight end Maxx Williams to be the first rookie to start for the Baltimore Ravens this season.

The Ravens and coach John Harbaugh have been evasive on the exact nature of the rookie’s injury but have said he is not a candidate for the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list, suggesting that they are anticipating his return to practice at any time. Perriman has been struggling with a knee injury since the beginning of the preseason.

After coming to Baltimore from practice-squad stints in Tampa Bay and Miami, Melvin was deactivated for four weeks before starting two games in December.

Other inactive players for the Ravens were cornerback Rashaan Melvin, offensive lineman Ryan Jensen, defensive tackle Christo Bilukidi, linebacker Za’Darius Smith and defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan. His practice activity appeared to be limited.

The Ravens roster as of Friday afternoon may not be the one they take into Denver. Both totals are the second-highest allowed in Ravens history. The Ravens will have Magee and fellow rookie Buck Allen to back up starter Justin Forsett.

Having 52 of the 53 players on the practice field was a good sign for the Ravens, but there are still question marks going into the weekend.
