Ravens WR Steve Smith to retire after this season

“Enjoy the journey”, the shirt says.

Smith played his first 13 NFL seasons with the Carolina Panthers, after being drafted in the third round.

If Smith had said Monday that he was retiring immediately, the Ravens would have been in serious trouble. He informed teammates Monday before practice at training camp. “We’re going to see what the dealer gives me”. Therefore, it’s always refreshing when a player makes the conscious decision to walk away from the game at the right time. After being cut in March 2014, he was quickly signed by Baltimore. He will hang up his cleats at the conclusion of the season saying that he would like to spend more time with his wife and four children. “I don’t want to hold on”.

Smith is the best player Carolina has ever had.

“Let me tell you something: I’m playing with house money”, he said. I would be jeopardizing something. “I don’t know what that is, and I have no intentions of finding out”.

Can you remember the NFL before Steve Smith Sr.? He’s only surpassed 85 catches three times in his career.

“If this is going to be the end, this is going to be the best place to end”, he said.

Smith has 13,262 receiving yards and 73 touchdown receptions for his career.

Harbaugh went on to describe Smith as a “pit bull”, a reflection of the jut-jawed, tone-setting fierceness that Smith has displayed here every time he steps on a field, either for practice or a game. There’s no question about that. He recorded four 100-yard games in his first six contests en route to his eighth 1,000-yard season. He was a cog in the Panthers’ 2003 team that lost to the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVIII.

Thomas, who has never missed a play in his NFL career since 2007, yelled when his leg was rolled into during an 11-on-11 scrimmage. However I am settled and I am nice with popping out and saying, ‘You recognize what?

He made five Pro Bowls total, and overcame the stigma of beating up teammate Ken Lucas during practice to become somewhat of a leader with the Panthers. And there have been moments – many, many of them – like the one in June when he and Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly teamed with Dick’s Sporting Goods to serve as personal consultants for 10 youth football players who were each given $100 with which to shop.

The departure of Smith, who has taken on more of a leadership role this year, will leave a void. If he can post another 1,000-yard season as he did last year, he would finish in the top 10.
