Tampa Bay took a 4-1 lead behind a two-run homer by Logan Forsythe and a solo shot by Logan Morrison, but they couldn’t hold it. Henley Ramirez hit a grand slam in the fifth to give Boston its first lead.
It was the only run Wright allowed in the first, but he threw 29 pitches and didn’t look sharp.
Ramirez, who also homered Tuesday night, hit his 19th and pushed his RBI total to 84 to continue his hot second half.
The Rays bats were back at it in the second after Wright logged two outs to begin the inning. Wieters then crushed the first pitch for a two-run homer to right that snapped a 3-3 tie.
With Pedey’s hit, he now has an eight-game hitting streak where he is hitting over.500, he has hit at 17 straight games at Fenway and 14 straight games against the Rays.
The matinee started well as the Rays took an early 4-1 lead. Tim Beckham singled before Wright retired the next two hitters.
LHP Drew Smyly, 4-0 with a 2.82 ERA over his last seven starts, closes the series for the Rays against RHP Steven Wright.
The month of August hasn’t been kind to Jackie Bradley Jr. Even with Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts, Ortiz and MVP candidate Mookie Betts occupying the top four spots in the batting order, it would be rare for a team to simply slug its way through the postseason.
Junichi Tazawa replaced Fernando Abad with the bases loaded and two out and allowed a two-run single by Logan Forsythe, who homered earlier. It was all about the long ball for the Mets with Asbrudal Cabrera hitting a two-run blast and Curtis Granderson going yard twice after coming off the bench to replace starting pitcher and rookie Seth Lugo, who gave up two runs in the first but settled down for his second win of the year. But pitch No. 101 became a two-run homer by Luke Maile. The umpires reviewed the play and determined the ball was over the marker and the Sox led 6-4. He attempted to turn the base hit into a double and was thrown out.before Beckham crossed home plate. There’s all positive reviews and evaluations of him.
The Sox had a good seventh inning on the mound, as Matt Barnes had two strikeouts wrapped around a single. It was his seventh career grand slam, second with Boston.
The best offense in baseball is holding the bail money while those in the Red Sox bullpen can only hope to be rescued.
With two outs, Abad allowed another walk and John Farrell made a decision to bring in Junichi Tazawa for the final out, Forsythe. Then, in the next inning, the Rays failed to come together on his pop fly and it fell for an RBI single that might have been a double had Ramirez run hard out of the box. The Rays are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings.
The Rays have won all of 56 games this season and needed to come from behind for 27 of them.
The Sox are in danger of dropping a third series to a Rays team that’s likely to finish the season with fewer than 70 wins.
Boston will have Thursday off, their first off day in 23 days, and most likely with multiple players called up for September call-ups, the Sox will play in Oakland on Friday at 10:05 p.m. David Price (13-8) will face Andrew Triggs (1-1).

Moncada has moved up from Single-A Salem to Double-A Portland this season but will skip Triple-A to join the Sox in the midst of a playoff push.
