The Washington Nationals lost tonight, allowing the Mets to extend their National League East lead to 2.5 games.

“Nice solution to begin the sport, particularly towards a man that does not have a tendency to surrender plenty of runs”, Granderson stated. “We talk about the character all the time – they prove it consistently”. Boxberger recorded the second out, but Wilmer Flores dunked a single into right field to bring home Conforto and put the Mets up 4-3. The outfielder tied it at 4 on a solo shot in the second. He should be back Monday.

Granderson, who had his streak of reaching base snapped at 20 straight Friday night, had led off the game with a home run to dead center field over the 404-foot sign in front of the batter’s eye.

Manager Terry Collins has said he does not want his starters to throw more than 40 pitches in an inning, and Syndergaard managed to stay under that threshold by getting the final out on his 38th pitch.

Rays: C Curt Casali left after two innings with a head bruise after being hit one inning earlier by a back swing….

Mets slugger Lucas Duda was 2 for 4 with two RBIs to raise his average to.
