Rays rally again, top Mets to reach .500

The New York Mets scored three times before making an out Saturday night and still their seven-game winning streak was snapped. Tampa Bay dropped to 27-31 at Tropicana Field this season after its fourth loss in a row against the Mets.

Staking their starters to an early three-run lead is usually a formula for success for the Mets, but it didn’t translate in these last two interleague games.

The Pirates loaded the bases with none out against Jim Johnson (2-4) as shortstop Kang Jung-ho walked, catcher Francisco Cervelli singled and first baseman Sean Rodriguez had a bunt single. The Mets would equalize in the seventh when Juan Uribe blasted a solo shot (11) of his own off Odorizzi to tie the game.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Edinson Volquez pitched seven strong innings and Lorenzo Cain doubled home the go-ahead run in the sixth to help Kansas City beat Chicago. The first two (one a double play and one a forceout) were correctly called foul balls. He allowed six hits and four walks while throwing 109 pitches. Rays C Curt Casali (head contusion) was not in the lineup Sunday after being removed from Saturday’s game when he was hit in the temple on a swing by Mets C Travis D’Arnaud. This is a very confident bunch, even more so than when they won eleven straight games, but they have to remember not to get ahead of themselves. DeGrom surrendered multiple homers for the third time this season, and the first since May 11.

Sean Gilmartin was already warming up in the bullpen before the inning was over, and though Thor ended up going four innings, he never found his stuff, eventually letting in another run on an Evan Longoria single in the fourth that gave the Rays all the offense they required.

Bruce Rondon pitched the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

Syndergaard said he had no indication while warming pregame that the wheels were going to come off in the first inning.

Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera had his 11-game hitting streak and a stretch of six straight mulithit games both end….

Lester (7-8) gave up two runs and six hits over seven innings.

You’ll have to tune in and see as the Mets and Rays will begin their three-game series Friday at 7:10 PM ET.

Kiermaier appeared to hurt his leg sliding while advancing to second base on a throw to third on the play, but remained in the game. He would settle down after that, allowing just two baserunners over the next four innings.

J.D. Martinez hit his 30th homer for the Tigers.

The right-hander walked four, hit a batter and struck out three, with nearly as many balls (48) as strikes (56) in his 104 pitches. Center fielder Abraham Almonte, recalled from Triple-A Columbus before the game, went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and two RBIs. Granderson has 34 in his career. “That is a type of issues we did not do in any respect (in the course of the win streak)”.

Last season’s NL Rookie of the Year, deGrom entered 7-2 with a 1.47 ERA over his previous 13 starts. Guthrie picked up the victory, although he yielded six runs and 10 hits in 5-2/3 innings. Conforto, who went 0-for-4 Sunday lowering his batting average to.222, has proven ready for the majors in some pretty big moments.
